Faux and Decorative Finishes

Faux and Fleur Design was established in 2000 and offers decorative finishes for both residential and commercial clients. Ann Bayer is the artist and owner. She works directly with clients to design specific finishes for specific areas including walls, ceilings, floors, furniture, windows, patios, sidewalks, pillars/columns or any other unique request a client might have.

The artist has a studio in a house in Arlington, Va which she encourages clients to visit so that they can actually see and touch many finishes on a variety of surfaces. Anyone can call for an appointment to see this house. Frequently the artist.s home is also open (only a few houses from the studio).

Although the studio is located in Arlington, Va. the artist and her husband frequently travel the US to follow decorative arts requests. They have painted around the DC area including Lake-of-the-Woods and the Eastern shore. Primarily they work in the Northern Virginia area on a regular basis but love to travel for those special opportunities at beach houses, lake homes, mountain condos, bed and breakfast or anyplace a finish is wanted and they can arrange to go.

Contracts and Costs

After the initial visit to the Studio, a design contract is signed which arranges for the artist to visit the Client location for a fee of $68 for a consultation on as large or small a project as the client desires. The artist will bring colors, and samples or pictures to help the client select a design for one or multiple surfaces.

At the conclusion of the consultation the client has no further obligation or the artist can be requested to prepare a proposal, a cost estimate or design custom color boards.

The cost of the finishes vary from inexpensive (one-color on another color) to textured finishes such as Lusterstone or Venetian Plaster which are at the high end price range. There are many other options in the mid-price range. To give you a rough estimate the least expensive finish averages $3.50 a square foot and the most expensive $9.00 a square foot. Variables such as height and surface texture impact the price.

The artist will help the client select the base coat for the finish or a decision may be made to use the color that is currently on the surface. If base coat painting is needed on the surface the artist can assist the client in finding a quality painter.

A contract will be given to the client with the specific charges, exact date for the work to start and detailed description of the work as well as a reference to the samples boards.
